Blue Butterfield

Woodcut artist / MAINE

Blue grew up in Bar Harbor and began her pursuit of the arts during High School.  On many Sundays Blue hiked up Flying Mountain with Christina Heineger to sketch the fiord of Mount Desert Island.   She had the great fortune of crossing paths with Tom Killion, a visiting professor, whilewas attending Bowdoin College.   As an accomplished woodblock artist andhistory professor he introduced her to woodcuts in all forms and the amazing woodcut tool suppliers McClain's.

Blue moved to Portland shortly after grad school and has been creating woodcuts of Maine people and landscapes ever since.

She lives with her absurdly cute husband Kevin and their two crazy boys.
